Jump Without Fear: Tips for Securing and Grounding Your Trampoline
For many of us, bouncing on a trampoline brings back fond childhood memories of carefree days spent jumping with friends and family. But did you know that trampolines are not just for kids? They can be an excellent way for adults to stay active and have fun too. Choosing a suitable trampoline base and keeping it secure to the ground can be daunting. In this article, we'll explore the best trampoline base ideas, how to secure a trampoline and help you decide which one is right for you.  So whether you're a seasoned trampoline enthusiast or just getting started, read on today to learn how to bounce confidently on the best trampoline base and ways to secure it for you. Introduction to Trampoline Bases Trampolines have become a popular recreational activity for families with children. Still, many parents overlook the importance of having a safe base for their trampoline and what to put under a trampoline. A trampoline base is the foundation on which your trampoline sits. It is essential to have a really sturdy trampoline and a safe base to prevent injury and ensure a long-lasting trampoline. Here are five reasons why having a safe base for your trampoline is paramount for maximum enjoyment and safety: Stability: A safe base will keep the trampoline stable and prevent it from tipping over during use, ensuring that jumpers are safe and secure. Even weight distribution: A safe base will help distribute the trampoline's weight evenly, even on an octagonal trampoline, keeping it level and preventing damage to the frame and springs. Protection from the ground: A safe base will provide a barrier between the trampoline and the floor, preventing damage to the trampoline and reducing the risk of injury. Enhanced durability: A safe base will help protect the trampoline from the elements, reducing the risk of rust and other damage. Increased longevity: A safe base will help extend the life of the trampoline, allowing families to enjoy it for years to come. Having a safe base for your trampoline, including a 2 level trampoline, is crucial for maximum enjoyment and safety. A stable base will keep the trampoline safe and secure. At the same time, even weight distribution and protection from the ground will prevent damage and reduce the risk of injury. Additionally, a safe base will enhance the durability and longevity of the trampoline, allowing families to enjoy it for years to come. Trampolining is a fun and exhilarating activity that has become increasingly popular recently. However, it is essential to ensure that trampolines are installed on an impact-absorbing surface to enable a safe landing and prevent injuries. Injuries Trampolining can be dangerous, especially if the trampoline is not installed on an impact-absorbing surface. Falling from a trampoline can cause injuries. An impact-absorbing surface such grass or bark can help absorb the impact of any falls, reducing the risk of injury. Performance The surface on which a trampoline is installed can affect its performance, longevity and safety of use.  Cost While installing a trampoline on a surface such as artificial grass or play sand may be tempting, these surfaces are not suitable to then anchor your trampoline in to.  Alternative Surfaces While surfaces such as artificial grass or concrete may seem like good options, they can actually cause more harm than good. Imagine if your little one was to fall off a trampoline and land on concrete - ouch! A soft impact surface like grass is perfect for your trampoline base. The Importance of Securing Your Trampoline Trampolines are a great way to exercise but can also be dangerous if they're not appropriately secured. Securing your trampoline is crucial because it helps prevent it from tipping over or moving around while someone is jumping on it. When a trampoline is not secured, it can easily be knocked over by a gust of wind or by someone jumping too close to the edge. This may result in serious injuries, especially if the trampoline falls on someone.  Another reason why securing your trampoline is essential is that it helps prevent trampolines from flying away during a storm. Trampolines have a large surface area, which makes them vulnerable to strong winds. If your trampoline is not secured, it can easily be lifted up by the wind and fly away, causing damage to your property or your neighbour's property, and you'll be wishing you knew how to keep a trampoline from blowing away! Risks of an Unsecured Trampoline An unsecured trampoline can pose several risks to both children and adults. An unsecured trampoline can easily tip over, causing serious injuries. If someone jumps on the trampoline when it tips over, they can injure themselves. Additionally, if the trampoline falls on someone, it can cause serious injuries, especially if it's a heavy-duty trampoline. Another risk of an unsecured trampoline is that it can easily move around while someone is jumping on it. This can cause the person jumping to lose their balance and fall off the trampoline. Falling off a trampoline can result in broken bones, head injuries, and other serious injuries. Finally, an unsecured trampoline can easily fly away during a storm. This may cause some really serious damage to your garden, property or your neighbour's property, and it can also injure someone if it hits them. That's why it's essential to anchor your trampoline in place.  Trampoline Anchors   Anchor kits are designed to hold the trampoline in place by securely anchoring it to the ground and closing off the area. They typically come with metal stakes screwed into the ground and attached to the trampoline frame. Anchor kits are a great way to keep your big trampoline from moving around while someone is jumping on it.  Protecting Your Trampoline from Strong Winds Even if you have a heavy-duty trampoline, anchoring a trampoline and protecting it from strong winds is essential. Here are some tips: If you can, take down the net  Make sure your trampoline is secured to the ground using anchors  Taking these steps can help prevent your trampoline from flying away during a storm.  Safety Tips for Trampoline Users Following some basic safety tips is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable trampoline experience for all users. Always supervise your children while they are using the trampoline. Limit the total number of jumpers on the trampoline to only 1 person at a time to prevent collisions. Remove shoes, jewellery, and other sharp objects before jumping. Use a safety net and ensure it is adequately secured. Regularly inspect your trampoline for signs of wear or damage, and address any issues promptly.  Regular Maintenance for a Safe and Long-Lasting Trampoline  Regular maintenance is vital to keeping your ground trampoline safe and functioning correctly. Inspect the trampoline regularly for signs of wear or damage, such as fraying or tearing in the jumping mat, rust on the frame, or loose springs. Protect your trampolines by removing leaves, debris, and dirt regularly. Check the trampoline's anchors and reposition or replace them to ensure a secure hold. Conclusion Trampolines are a popular addition to any garden, providing endless hours of jumping fun and exercise for children and adults. However, it's vital to ensure that safety is a top priority when purchasing and installing a trampoline to prevent accidents and injuries. As we have discussed here, one of the most critical factors in ensuring trampoline safety is the choice of the base surface and fixing it into the ground itself. Installing a trampoline on an impact-absorbing surface, such as grass, is essential for several reasons, including safety, durability, performance, maintenance, and cost. Investing in trampoline safety anchors may seem like an additional expense. Still, it is a really small price to pay for the safety and enjoyment of trampolining.  So, go ahead and jump into the world of trampolines, but make sure you do it safely and responsibly. Remember to anchor your trampoline correctly, secure the trampoline's safety net, and follow regular maintenance practices to create a secure and enjoyable jumping experience for everyone.

As the weather is now slowly starting to warm up and the great British summer approaches, many people are looking for fun and effective ways to get in shape. The biggest option that is trending in popularity is trampoline workouts, and we totally agree! Not only is bouncing freely on a trampoline a complete blast, but a session of bouncing is also an excellent way to burn calories, improve your cardio and build muscle. In this article, we'll introduce you to the world of trampoline exercises, give you some tips on how to get started, and show you some basic and advanced moves that will help you get fit for summer.  Before taking on any new exercise, it is recommended that should you have any concerns, to speak to your GP. Benefits of Trampoline Workouts Before we jump into the specifics of trampoline exercises, it's worth taking a moment to talk about the many benefits they offer for adults as well as children! For starters, trampoline workouts are a low-impact exercise option that is really easy-going on the joints. This makes trampoline workouts an ideal choice for people who are new to exercise, recovering from an injury, or those people dealing with chronic pain. Additionally, trampoline exercises can be a great way to improve your balance and coordination, as well as your cardiovascular fitness. Some studies have even shown that trampoline workouts can help to strengthen your bones and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Another benefit of trampoline workouts is that they are incredibly fun! Unlike some forms of exercise that can feel like a chore, trampoline exercises are exciting and engaging. This can help you stay motivated and committed to your fitness goals. Trampoline workouts are also a fantastic way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Whether you're bouncing in your garden or at a local park, trampoline exercises can be an excellent way to get some sunshine and connect with nature. Safety Precautions for Trampoline Exercises While trampoline workouts can be a lot of fun, taking safety precautions is essential to ensure you don't get injured. For starters, make sure that your trampoline is in good condition and that it is set up on a flat, level surface. Your trampoline must be secured to the ground and before jumping, make sure the entrance to the trampoline is closed (if it's a zip enclosure, it needs to be done up). Ensure there is only one person jumping on the trampoline at any time, and make sure you're adhering to weight limits for your specific trampoline.  It's also a good idea to warm up before you start bouncing. This can help to prevent muscle strains and other injuries. Make sure you do not attempt any flips or tricks that are too advanced, this can cause injuries.  Some good warm-up exercises for trampoline workouts include: Yoga style stretches Gentle circle steps Light bounces Jumping jacks High knee stretches Butt kicks. Lastly, be sure to start with basic exercises and progress slowly to more advanced moves. This will help you build strength and confidence while reducing your risk of injury. Getting Started with Trampoline Workouts  Now that you know some of the benefits and safety precautions of trampoline exercises, let's talk about how to get started. First, you'll need to find a trampoline. We recommend either a 12-foot trampoline with an enclosure or a 14-foot trampoline with an enclosure that will give you optimum space to bounce around and complete your exercise routine. Once you have your trampoline set up, it's time to start bouncing! Start with some basic exercises like bending your knees and doing vertical jumps. These exercises will help you get comfortable with the trampoline and start building your strength and endurance. As you progress, you can start to move on to more advanced moves like squat jumps and twists. Basic Trampoline Exercises Let's take a better look at a few of the basic trampoline exercises you can try. Bending Knees Jump The first exercise is jumping with bent knees. Stand by standing on the trampoline with your feet placed shoulder-width apart and your knees slightly bent. Bounce up and down, keeping your core engaged and your arms at your sides. This exercise is excellent for building leg strength and improving your balance. Vertical Jumps Another effective trampoline exercise is the vertical jump, which may sound obvious as you are on a trampoline, but it can be a great exercise when done correctly! Start in the same position as the knee bend exercise, but this time, jump straight up as high as you can safely go. Land softly on the trampoline with your knees bent, and repeat. This exercise is excellent for building some explosive power and improving your cardiovascular fitness. Jumping Jacks Finally, you can try jumping jacks on the trampoline. Start with your feet together on the trampoline and your arms at your sides. Bounce up and spread your legs wide while raising your arms overhead. Bounce again and bring your feet back together while lowering your arms. This exercise is excellent for working your entire body and getting your heart rate up. Advanced Trampoline Exercises Once you've mastered the basic trampoline exercises, it's time to move on to more advanced moves. Squat Jumps One of the best is the squat jump. Start in a squat position with both of your feet placed shoulder-width apart and your arms at your sides. Jump up and bring your knees to your chest, then land back in the squat position. This exercise is superb for building explosive power and strengthening your legs. The Twist Another advanced trampoline exercise is the twist. Start with your feet shoulder-width apart, with both of your arms extended out to the sides. Bounce up and twist your torso to the left, then bounce again and twist to the right. This exercise is excellent for building core strength and improving your coordination. Tuck Jumps Finally, you can try tuck jumps on the trampoline. Start in the same position as the vertical jump, but this time, bring your knees up towards your chest and hold that position for a moment before landing softly. This exercise is excellent for building leg strength and improving your balance. Trampoline Workouts for Cardio In addition to the strength-building exercises we've already discussed, trampoline workouts can be an excellent way to get your cardio in. Incorporating jumping exercises into your routine is a great way to do this. These exercise routines will get your heart rate up and help you burn calories: Low-Impact Trampoline Jogging Start by standing in the centre of the trampoline and jogging in place with your arms by your sides for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, switch to high knees, pumping your arms as you lift your knees up to hip level. Gradually increase the speed and lift your knees higher. Repeat for 3-5 minutes. Running Man Plyos Stand with your feet positioned shoulder-width apart and your arms bent at your sides. Jump and bring your left knee to your chest while also bringing your right arm forward. Land on the trampoline with both feet and then jump again, bringing your right knee to your chest and your left arm forward. Repeat for 30 seconds, alternating legs. Jumping Jacks: Stand on the trampoline with your feet placed together and your arms by your sides. Jump, and at the same time, spread your legs out to the sides while raising your arms high above your head. Jump again and bring your legs back together while lowering your arms to your sides. Repeat for 1-2 minutes, gradually increasing the speed and intensity. Remember to maintain good posture, use proper form, and wear supportive shoes while exercising on a trampoline. Trampoline Exercises for Children  If you have kids, trampoline exercises can be a great way to get them moving and active. However, keeping safety in mind when working out with children is essential. Be sure to supervise them at all times, and only allow them to do exercises that are appropriate for their age and skill level. Some fun trampoline exercises for kids include jumping jacks, knee tucks, and twists. You can also try playing games like "Simon Says" or "Red Light, Green Light" on the trampoline. These activities will help your kids stay active and engaged while having a blast. Combining Trampoline Exercises with Other Workouts While trampoline exercises can be a great standalone workout, you can also combine them with other exercises for a full-body workout. For example, you could do a circuit that includes trampoline exercises, bodyweight exercises, and resistance band exercises. You could also use the trampoline to get a comprehensive warm-up routine in before jogging, running, swimming, or cycling. This will help you build strength, burn calories, and improve your overall fitness. Trampoline Exercise Equipment and Accessories Finally, it's worth noting that there are a variety of trampoline exercise equipment and accessories you can use to enhance your workouts. For example, you can use the resistance band to add extra resistance to your exercises. You can also use ankle weights to make your leg exercises more challenging. Additionally, there are trampoline workout DVDs and online classes that can guide you through a variety of activities. Conclusion - Bouncing Your Way to a Healthier You! As you can see, trampoline exercises offer such a fun and really effective way to get in shape for summer. By following the safety precautions and starting with basic exercises, you can build your strength and endurance over time. Spring Cleaning for Your Trampoline: A Comprehensive Guide to Keeping it Sparkling Clean!
As the spring weather is beginning to warm up and summer is fast approaching, it's definitely time to start thinking about cleaning up your outdoor equipment. One essential item that requires regular maintenance is the trampoline. Whether you have a small, large, square, or round trampoline, it's essential to keep it clean to ensure its longevity. In this comprehensive guide, we will share with you the best ways to clean your trampoline so that it sparkles like new. Importance of Keeping Your Trampoline Clean Dirt, debris, and leaves can accumulate on the mat and springs, making them slippery and increasing the risk of accidents. Additionally, a dirty trampoline can lead to the growth of mould spores and mildew, which could cause health problems for those who use it. Regular cleaning can prevent these issues and ensure that your trampoline lasts for years to come. Benefits of Owning a Quality Trampoline Investing in cleaning a quality trampoline can provide numerous benefits, including:  Prevents Damage: Regular cleaning of the trampoline surface can help prevent damage caused by dirt, debris, and other environmental factors. Dirt and debris can cause rust and corrosion on the trampoline's metal frame. At the same time, bird droppings and other stains can damage the trampoline fabric. Increases Longevity: A clean trampoline is less likely to develop problems and will last longer. Regular cleaning helps to prevent problems before they occur, allowing you to get the most out of your investment. Maintains Appearance: A clean trampoline looks better and is more inviting to use. Regular cleaning can help maintain the appearance of your trampoline and keep it looking new for longer. Supplies Needed to Clean Your Trampoline  Before you start cleaning your trampoline, you may need to gather some supplies. Thankfully, no specialist equipment is required to clean a trampoline; however, you will need some specific items to clean your trampoline thoroughly and effectively.  Here are the essential items you will need: A Soft-bristled Brush: It's best to use a soft-bristled brush when cleaning a trampoline to avoid damage to any components. A Long-Handled Broom: This will be helpful to remove any loose debris, such as fallen leaves and twigs, from the whole trampoline's surface. 2 Buckets: This may seem obvious; however, having 2 buckets for your trampoline cleaning is essential, one with cleaning solution and one with clean water to rinse. Dry Cloth: After cleaning, you can use a dry cloth to dry your trampoline. Pressure Washer: A pressure washer is recommended for cleaning the frame and springs. A Short Ladder/Set of Steps: Some people may find it helpful to have a bit of height when cleaning their trampoline, especially if it is rather large! Preparing for Cleaning Before you start cleaning your trampoline, you need to prepare it by removing any debris, leaves, or sticks that may be on it. To do this, you can use a soft-bristled brush or broom to sweep the mat and springs. For cleaning ease, remove the safety net and any other accessories, such as the ladder, to make cleaning the trampoline surface easier. Once the trampoline is clear, rinse it with a hose to remove any loose dirt or debris. Preparing your trampoline for a complete clean is such a simple but essential job that can help extend the life of your trampoline, improve its performance, and ensure the safety of those who use it. Cleaning the Trampoline Mat Using Soap and Water Once you have prepared your trampoline, you can start cleaning the mat. To do this:  Mix a mild soap (Such as dish soap or a very mild detergent) and water solution in a bucket. Dip the soft-bristled brush into the solution and scrub the mat gently, making sure to get into all the corners and crevices. Be careful not to scrub too harshly on the surface of the trampoline, as this can damage the mat. Once you have scrubbed the entire mat, rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Rinsing the Trampoline Mat with Clean Water After cleaning the mat with soap and water, you need to rinse it thoroughly with clean water. This can be done using a hose or a pressure washer. Make sure to rinse the entire mat, including the corners and edges, to remove any remaining soap or dirt. Cleaning the Frame and Springs Using Pressure Water The frame and springs of your trampoline can accumulate dirt and debris over time. To clean these areas, you can use a pressure washer. Make sure to use the appropriate pressure setting and nozzle to avoid damaging the trampoline. Start at the top of the frame and work your way down, making sure to clean every part of it. Once you have finished cleaning the frame, you can move on to the springs, making sure to clean each one thoroughly. Maintenance and Care Tips for Your Trampoline Regular cleaning is just one aspect of trampoline maintenance. Here are some additional care tips to ensure that your trampoline lasts for years to come: Inspect your trampoline regularly for any signs of general wear and tear, such as tiny holes in the mat or rust on the frame. Replace any damaged parts immediately to prevent further damage to your trampoline. Keep your trampoline under a trampoline cover to protect it from the sometimes-harsh weather conditions when not in constant use. Avoid jumping on the trampoline when it has snow or ice on it. Limit the number of people using the trampoline to only 1 at once to prevent accidents. Conclusion: Regular Cleaning Ensures a Longer Life for Your Trampoline Regular cleaning is essential for maintaining the safety and longevity of your trampoline. By following the steps outlined in this comprehensive guide, you can keep your trampoline sparkling clean and in top condition. Remember to inspect your trampoline regularly and follow the care tips to ensure that it lasts for years to come. A quality trampoline is an excellent investment for both children and adults, providing hours of fun and exercise. So, get cleaned and enjoy your trampoline with peace of mind knowing it's safe and well-maintained.

How to paint a wooden playhouse
If you’ve purchased one of our amazing wooden playhouses, but want to add your own stamp on it - painting it to suit you and your little ones is a great idea! Don’t worry if DIY is not your strong point, we’ve got some top tips to help give your playhouse the makeover of your dreams!  What tools do I need for the job?  Masking Tape - this gives you clean edges and helps if you’re wanting to paint multiple colours. Paint Brush - a brush is a must for the parts of your playhouse that require more precision  Rollers - perfect for painting large areas of your playhouse, like the side or roof Paint tray - making it simple to refill and top up your paint  The best paint for a playhouse  When it comes to choosing the paint for your playhouse, there are a few different things to consider.  Choose the right paint:  You want to make sure that you are choosing exterior paints only. These make sure the playhouse is protected against different weather conditions and will keep it intact.  Check the ingredients:  Paints are made from different materials. Since your little one will be using the playhouse, we recommend using only water-based colours - so we’re not exposing little ones to any unnecessary chemicals.  Choose your finish:  Do you want to paint your playhouse Matte or Gloss? Here’s a quick rundown of both…  Matte paint gives you a flat colour and non-reflective finish. It hides any bumps and imperfections that may occur.  Gloss paint (you can choose between semigloss and high gloss) gives a reflective, bright and shiny finish. They’re also generally more durable than matte paint.  Should I paint my wood playhouse before or after I build it?  If you’re planning on painting just the outside of the playhouse, it may be easiest to do it once it’s been built, however, if you’re wanting to paint the inside too, you’ll probably be better off painting the panels before you put them together (as it might be a little bit of a tight space for an adult to get into!)  Preparing your playhouse  Before you start to paint your playhouse, it’s a good idea to prepare it by wiping it down with a damp cloth. This makes sure there’s no dirt, dust or sand on the playhouse that may interfere with your paint. Don’t forget to give the windows and doors a wipe too as something the dirt can settle on there.  How to paint the playhouse Step 1: Apply masking tape to all edges of your playhouse, and any parts of the playhouse you want to have a clean line of paint - if you’re painting a pattern for example. The prep in this is what can take the longest, but trust us - it’ll be worth it in the end.  Step 2: Pour your chosen paints into your paint trays and make a start by using your paintbrush to cautiously paint the parameter of the playhouse window frames and doors. It’s best to get the tricky bits out of the way first.  Step 3: Grab a larger flat brush or roller and paint the bigger areas. Make sure you follow the grain of the wood for a better finish. If not, the paint can look rough and unfinished.  Step 4: Depending on how it looks, you may want to apply a second coat. Make sure your first coat is completely dry before starting your second coat.  Step 5: When the house is painted, you may want to grab a smaller paintbrush and paint any trims, features or patterns you like! This is a great time for little ones to make their mark on the playhouse too - why not include their handprints?  Step 6: Finish off your creation with some fairy lights, cushions, bell, a post box and more - the possibilities are endless!
How to wind down after a busy day's play

How to wind down after a busy day's play
We're all keen to get our kids as active as possible during the day, whether it's bouncing on trampolines or running around the park with a bat and ball. However, this boundless energy can become problematic if it spills over into bedtime. Hyped-up children might be less likely to stay in bed when they're supposed to - and that could add up to a recipe for grumpy little ones the following day, not to mention fed-up parents. It's therefore important to incorporate some winding-down activities into a busy day's play so that sleep time is sacrosanct. It can seem hard to think up even more things to do when you've already been inventing games left, right and centre, but these bedtime pursuits don't have to be complicated at all - in fact, they mostly focus on creating a routine that will lead to yawns and an association with tiredness. Here are a few suggestions to get you started off. Stop the exercise in good time Getting toddlers in particular to stop running around can be a challenge, but try to avoid anything too physical for at least an hour before bedtime. Instead, get youngsters doing quiet things such as building Lego, making friendship bracelets or writing about their day in a journal. This will settle their mind down without making them think they're being bundled off for bed too soon, as well as providing developmental skills while they're busy. We know it's tempting to want to tire them out whenever possible, but remember that you'd probably find it hard to sleep after doing a session at the gym - it's just the same for them, even if said gym is actually a back garden playground or indoor trampoline. Avoid electronic gadgets Today's kids are proficient in gadgetry from an early age, but research has shown that the light from things like games consoles and tablets can interrupt the production of sleep hormones and keep even us adults awake. Set a time (again, preferably a good hour before bed) when computers and the like have to be packed away until tomorrow - and stick to it. If they're used to electronic things not being around after a certain time, they won't even question the matter and you'll get some peace from the bleeping and blinking. Give a ten-minute warning If you want your little ones in bed around seven, gently warn them around ten to that they should be finishing up what they're doing because it's nearly time for bed. Springing it on them can result in tantrums, which in turn can hype them up and make sleep difficult. Everyone likes an advance warning, after all. Establish an off-to-bed routine Kids respond well to structure, so try to do the same or similar things each night so they associate them with being quiet and falling asleep. Brush their teeth, then put their sleepwear on if you haven't already, then choose a book from a select few on a shelf near the bed - too many can cause 'playing for time' - and get them to climb into bed. Reading the book to them in a gentle voice should make children feel nice and calm, meaning they have no trouble dropping off. If you're looking for a good book to read at nighttime, we have a handy blog to help.  When the book is finished, you might want to sing a quick lullaby or say a sort of sleep time mantra (it can just be as easy as 'night night, sleep tight, see you in the morning'), which will again become associated in their mind with sleep. We know lots of families always finish the day with the same poem or song and it really is surprisingly effective, so it's well worth a try. Winding down after exciting activities is important for everyone, no matter what their age, so you may find that applying any of these tips results in your evenings being more relaxing too!

Wooden Climbing Frames and Swing Sets

Wooden Climbing Frames and Swing Sets
At TP Toys we make our climbing frames and swing sets out of two different materials – either metal or wood. In this article, we’re going to be looking at the different options we have for our wooden garden toys, plus the benefits of each option. Have a read through this article and let us help you make an informed decision when it comes to buying your next wooden outdoor toys. Our wooden outdoor play equipment is either made from round wood or square wood. Whilst both are brilliant wooden garden play equipment options, there are big differences between the two (other than just the shape) which is why we’re here to help!   Round Wood Our round wood timber comes from younger and smaller trees. They’re made by stripping full tree poles of the surface layers (sapwood) so we’re left with the inside of the wood only (heartwood)! No further processing takes place on our round wood, apart from the application of an environmentally friendly preservative that helps to make sure your climbing frame or swing set can withstand the elements and ward off things like termites. This means that your round wood frame will be rustic and natural in appearance. As round wood has very little processing, it means natural cracks can occur. We know this can seem daunting but there is no need to worry - your wooden swing set or climbing frame is still perfectly safe to use.  We’ve done lots of tests (both in a laboratory and in the field) that have proven natural cracking of the wood doesn’t affect the strength of the timber. We’ve also designed the frames in a way that means natural cracks and wood splintering won’t negatively impact the frame's integrity in any way.  Cracks appear (again, it’s completely normal) because it’s a natural organic substance and naturally is influenced by its surroundings - like the good old British weather! As the seasons change and the humidity of the air changes with it, wooden swing sets in the UK will naturally move, swell and shrink. Because our round wood frames are made from a natural material and have very little treatment added to them, it’s important that parents check their wooden garden climbing frame or swing frame regularly - this is to make sure there is no splintering of the wood or that any of the wood is lifting away from the surface. If this is spotted, affected areas need to be rubbed down using coarse sandpaper to restore a smooth, safe surface. On occasion, these characteristics can develop to a point where replacing the pole may be required. Most commonly, this is confined to where a significant crack runs directly through a fixing point. If this happens, don’t worry - we’re on hand to help. Our round wood swing and climbing frames have a 1-year guarantee!  Concerns regarding splits and cracks should be directed to customerservice@tptoys.com. Your email should ideally be accompanied by photographs that illustrate your concern to enable the Quality Control Team to assist you. Square Wood Unlike round wood, square wood is derived from larger and more mature trees. It is removed from much larger mature tree poles and includes very little (if any) heartwood in its profile. The square wood for the playframe then goes through a significant manufacturing process, which includes planing and smoothing the wood, and cutting and drilling the dimensioned parts. This means that although cracks and splits can appear over time due to changes in the atmosphere, it’s less likely to happen (and won’t happen as often) as the round wood sets. It also means maintenance isn’t required as often as it would be with round wood, although it’s still recommended you do check your play frame and keep up maintenance.  Cracks and splits are not considered ‘faults’ in our TP wooden climbing and swing frames. They are natural characteristics and are taken into consideration when the products are designed. Square wood sets have a larger surface area than the round wood sets, which in turn means they’re stronger - in fact, the new Everest Swing Set range is our biggest and strongest ever! Our square wood ranges, like our Kingswood & Everest Swing Sets come with a 5-year guarantee on the wooden frame, giving you extra peace of mind.  Round Wood or Square Wood? There are two types of wood play frames - rustic round wood frames and more refined square wood frames. The wood for each frame comes from different parts of the tree, which is reflected in the visual differences between the two types of frames. Obviously, the significant differences in the manufacturing processes between round wood and square wood are reflected in the price. Round wood frames are cheaper than square wood. It goes without saying, round wood swings or climbing frames offer amazing play value, they’re just likely to require a bit more maintenance than square wood frames to make sure they’re in top condition and remain safe. The purchaser of the frame is responsible for the upkeep of the maintenance, as well as making sure the frame is sited properly and used in line with age and weight instructions. If you're looking for a garden swing or climbing frame that is easier to maintain, you may want to consider a galvanised steel frame, where the material's consistency can be assured. Steel frames may still require maintenance and checks on parts such as fittings, but they don’t require maintenance like sanding or treating as there is with a wooden frame.
