The perfect way to spend time with your little ones during the Easter holidays is baking - and what's more fun than to make Chick Biscuits?!
We had a great time making these and we're pleased to be able to share the recipe and method with you!
If you and your children make these biscuits this Easter, share with us on social media!
To make 9 biscuits (this method involves sandwiching two biscuits together)
Ingredients for biscuits:
- 225g Self Raising Flour
- 100g Caster Sugar
- 100g Baking Butter (Stork or other soft margarine)
- 1 Medium Egg
Ingredients for filling:
- 150g icing sugar
- Yellow food colouring
- 1 tbsp of water (add more as needed)
Method:
Step 1 - Mix the flour and sugar together in a large mixing bowl
Step 2 - Rub in your margarine into your flour mixture with your fingers until it resembles breadcrumbs
Step 3 - Beat the egg in a bowl and add in to your mixture
Step 4 - Mix everything together until it forms a ball
Step 5 - Sprinkle some flour onto a clean surface and roll out your biscuit dough until it's around half a cm thick
Step 6 - Get your cookie cutter and cut out the shapes. We opted for flower shapes, but you can choose whatever you like
Step 7 - Take a smaller circle and cut out two holes in 9 of the biscuits, one on top of the other
Step 8 - Place the biscuits on a tray lined with grease-proof paper so they don't stick
Step 9 - Bake in the oven on 180c (or 350f, gas mark 4) for around 8 - 10 minutes. Make sure you keep an eye on them, as they can burn easily
Step 10 - Whilst your biscuits are baking, mix your icing sugar, food colouring and water in a bowl - this will be your biscuit filling
Step 11 - When your biscuits are done, take them out of the oven to cool
Step 12 - When your biscuits are cool, place a spoonful of icing mixture onto the full biscuits, then top with the biscuits with the small holes in
Step 13 - Now it's time to decorate! Pop on a candy eye, and use an orange icing pen to make the legs and beaks of your chicks
Step 14 - Enjoy!
