FAQs
Both metal and wooden climbing frames offer great play value, but wooden climbing frames are especially popular for family gardens. Crafted from FSC-certified timber, wooden frames blend naturally into outdoor spaces and offer a sturdy, durable structure for active play. They remain comfortable to touch in all seasons and, when properly treated, are designed to withstand the UK’s changing weather while providing long-lasting fun.
Our climbing frames are designed for straightforward home assembly. Each set includes clear step-by-step instructions, labelled parts, and all essential hardware. Most customers complete assembly in 2–4 hours, depending on the size of the frame and whether you have help.
Basic tools such as a screwdriver, spanner, and drill (for wooden models) are usually all you need. All TP toys wood comes pre drilled for easy assembly. Any specialised fittings are supplied within the box. Your instruction manual will list all required tools so you can prepare before starting.
For added safety and to protect your garden, we recommend installing your climbing frame on soft, impact-absorbing ground, such as grass, rubber mulch, artificial turf, bark chippings, or safety mats designed for play equipment. Avoid hard surfaces like concrete or paving.
A climbing frame encourages children to build strength, coordination, balance, and confidence. It also supports problem-solving skills, imaginative play, and social development when playing with friends or siblings. It’s a fun and engaging way for children to stay active outdoors.
The best climbing frame depends on your child’s age, abilities, and available outdoor space.
Toddlers: Choose low platforms, gentle slides, and stable designs.
Younger children: Look for climbing walls, slides, and accessories that offer a mix of challenge and fun.
Older children / pre-teens: Opt for taller platforms, modular extensions, and more advanced climbing features.
Our “Build Your Own” tool makes it easy to design a frame that fits your child's needs and your garden layout.
Our climbing frames cover a wide range of ages - from 18 months (toddler models) right up to 10-12 years for our larger wooden and metal systems. Each product page lists a recommended age range so you can choose confidently.
You can find detailed dimensions - including overall height, platform heights, footprint, and required safety clearance - on each product page under the Specifications or Dimensions section.
Our climbing frames offer a range of platform heights to suit different age groups and garden sizes.
- Lower platforms (0.9–1.2m) are ideal for younger children.
- Higher platforms (1.5–1.8m) provide a greater challenge for older kids.
When choosing, consider: your child’s confidence level, available garden space, and whether you plan to add slides, swing arms, or climbing accessories.
Yes. Many of our wooden and metal climbing frames are modular, allowing you to add swings, slides, climbing walls, bridges, or play panels over time. This makes it easy to grow your play area as your children grow.
The number of children depends on the size and design of the frame. Most models comfortably accommodate 2–6 children playing together, as long as they follow the safety guidelines. Check the product’s capacity recommendations to ensure safe play.
Weight limits vary between models:
Wooden climbing frames generally support up to 50–100 kg per platform section.
Metal frames can support similar or slightly higher loads depending on design.
Each product page clearly displays its maximum load rating so you can choose with confidence.
Yes. All our climbing frames are rigorously tested to meet current safety standards for residential play equipment. We use FSC-certified wood, high-quality steel, and robust materials to provide a strong, stable, and durable structure for years of safe play. All are EN 71 safety certified.
To keep your wooden climbing frame in great condition, we recommend:
- Checking bolts and fixings regularly
- Treating the wood annually with a suitable outdoor wood preserver
- Inspecting for weather wear after winter
Our wooden frames use pre-treated, FSC-approved timber designed for long-term outdoor use.

It creates a dedicated space for climbing, sliding, swinging and imaginative play, encouraging children to stay active while having fun in the fresh air. Built to last and designed to grow with your family, a well-made climbing frame can provide years of enjoyment, making it a valuable addition to any garden.
