Properly maintaining your wooden playhouse is crucial to ensuring it has a long shelf life.

----------------------------------

Before use outside, some playhouses must be treated with suitable environmentally friendly/child friendly stain or wood treatment on both inside & outside panels. Wood stains can be oil or water based. Each has it's own benefits & watch outs, with oil based lasting longer, but water based offering more colour options.

----------------------------------

Not all playhouses are water tight, so you may want to consider purchasing a felt roof to go over the top of the wooden roof. This will ensure that no water seeps through into the inside during heavy downpours. If you are planning on leaving your playhouse outside during the winter months we would recommend purchasing a cover to protect the structure.

Make sure you check for any rot or other issues with the wood often throughout the year. If you have treated the wood then that should protect it from rot. However it is always important to give your playhouse a thorough check at least once a month, reviewing the wood for splinters, splits & any other issues.

-----------------------------------

While doing this checks make sure to look over the windows and doors too. Playhouses share more in common with garden sheds than you would think, so the wood can shrink over time. Make sure if the wood has begun to shrink you use a specialist wood filler to fill the gaps.

-----------------------------------

Plastic playhouses require less upkeep however you should still regularly both inspect it and clean it. A power washer will sufficiently clean a plastic playhouse.

Placing Your Playhouse

Finding the right location for your playhouse is key for ensuring both safe play for the little ones & longevity for your play equipment.

Ensure the playhouse is positioned on flat, firm ground. Some playhouses don't have solid floors so it is important that the ground chosen is flat & stable. There should be an area of at least 1 metre around the playhouse and where possible it should be visible from the house so parents can monitor children during playtime.
